Wear rubber gloves to protect the clips and electronic contact surfaces.

Once the battery has been removed, put the new battery into its socket. Make sure the positive side of the battery is facing up and the clips are all seated. Slide the cover toward the key-ring area until it becomes loose and slides off. Then, take off the cover and reveal the key blade, which is hidden inside. You can use it to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side If you've lost or broken the key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

The majority of modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs that perform more than just unlock or lock the doors. They can also perform useful functions such as summoning or auto parking the vehicle. The latest Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine using the key fob buttons. But how exactly does it work?

First, locate a clean work surface where you can lay out all the necessary items needed for this project. Lay the fob on the surface with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Then you will need a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar device to turn the battery hatch back to the open position. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces of the fob using your tools, since this could cause the key fob to stop working properly.

Once the hatch has been opened, place the battery in its socket. Make sure that the positive (+ side) is facing upwards. Once the clips have been locked in place, replace the battery cover, and then reassemble the fob.

Pressing the unlock button once will disengage the alarm and open the driver's door. When you press it a second time and you will be able to unlock all doors and the tailgate. The unlock button can also be useful for rolling down the windows to let in cool, fresh air on a hot summer day. If you're in the market for more features, the key fob may also be used to activate the ERS system, which will begin the system for controlling your vehicle's temperature and allow it to cool or warm it according to the desired temperature settings when the vehicle is stationary.

How do I change the battery?

If your key fob isn't locking or unlocking your car as it did in the past it could be time to change the battery. The battery can be changed using a flathead screwdriver plastic pry bar, or other small tools. Locate the small slot that houses the backup/emergency metal ignition key. Insert the blade of a screwdriver or prybar tool into this slot, and gently pull the back of the fob open. After the fob is open you can locate the CR2032 3V battery and take it off. Put a brand new battery in its spot and snap the fob back together.

Note: Some older Volvo models use an entirely different type of battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have an average thickness of 7 tenths a millimeter less than a CR2032 which means you'll need to be extra careful when replacing your battery.

How to Unlock the Key Blade that is Hidden Key Blade

Keyfobs from Volvo have changed in recent years. They are more than a simple remote to start and lock your vehicle. They can also lower the windows and provide an energy boost when needed. You'll first need to master using your key fob to unlock its full potential.

The key fob in your car has transponder chips that are programmed to your Volvo. When you insert it into the ignition barrel an antenna reads the code and compares it with the one that is stored in the start inhibitor module. If the codes aren't compatible then your car won't begin. This is a crucial anti-theft feature that prevents your Volvo car from starting if you use the wrong key.

You will need to take your lost key to a dealer to get it replaced. Your vehicle will also be reprogrammed. This process can take between 5 and 10 days and will cost you a lot of money. There is an alternative to cut out some of the costs by doing the programming at home. You can locate the necessary details in your owner's manual or on the internet. First, remove the non-logo and logo covers from your key fob. Then lay it on a clean, flat surface. Find the grey button located on the upper right corner of the fob and push it down. This will open the cover to reveal the CR 2032 3V battery.
